Creativity Comes to Life with Mrs. Evans in the Art Room

At Hometown Elementary, art class is a highlight of the week thanks to our talented and creative art teacher, Mrs. Evans. Her classroom is a place where students explore big ideas through art, experiment with new materials, and express themselves in meaningful and imaginative ways.

Mrs. Evans designs her lessons to be both fun and educational, teaching students about important art concepts such as cool and warm colors, texture, balance, contrast, and perspective. She introduces these ideas through hands-on projects, classroom discussions, and examples from famous artists. When learning about warm and cool colors, for example, students might paint sunsets using reds, oranges, and yellows, or create icy landscapes with blues, greens, and purples. Through this, they not only learn color theory but also how color can express mood and emotion.

Throughout the year, students are introduced to a variety of well-known artists who inspire their work. They may explore the swirling skies of Vincent van Gogh, the colorful dots of Georges Seurat, the bold shapes of Henri Matisse, or the expressive faces of Frida Kahlo. Mrs. Evans connects each artist’s style with creative, age-appropriate projects that help students apply different techniques such as collage, oil pastels, watercolor blending, and cool and warm colors.

Students love seeing their artwork come to life and proudly display their pieces throughout the school. One student shared, “Mrs. Evans makes every project exciting. I didn’t think I could be an artist, but now I know I can be.”

Mrs. Evans brings a love of art and teaching into everything she does, encouraging students to take creative risks and see the beauty in their own ideas. We’re so thankful for the color and joy she brings to Hometown!
