Students played games during our Super Hero Math Night.
Hometown Elementary families put their math superpowers to work during a fun-filled Superhero-themed Title I Math Night!
The halls of Hometown Elementary were filled with capes, smiles, and plenty of mathematical thinking as students and their families joined together for an action-packed evening of learning. With a superhero theme, students and families discovered that everyone has the power to be a Math Superhero!
Students rotated through a variety of hands-on math activities designed to make learning fun, engaging, and meaningful. Some of the games included:
Spidey Sense: Villains are invading Hometown! You must climb the rock wall, following a specific sequence of numbers along the rock wall to get across the city and save the day! Count by 2s, 5s, 10s and make it to the other side.
The Flash Number Race: Partners flash fingers and add or multiply to get to their other side of their game board.
Flying Math Scoot: Practice your flying skills down the hallway. Spin, squat, roll, jump! Follow the prompts on the floor to reach each crime scene where you will solve a math puzzle to save the day!
Memory Match: Use your x-ray vision to find hidden matches of shapes, numbers and quantities, and problems and answers!
Families also learned more about the ways they can support math learning at home. Simple activities, games, and everyday experiences can provide valuable opportunities for children to practice math skills while spending time with family.
The superhero theme was the perfect reminder that being successful in math isn't about always knowing the answer right away. Math Superheroes keep trying, think creatively, learn from mistakes, and never give up!
"Our families are such an important part of our students' success," shared math specialist Mrs. Malone. "Events like Math Night give us the opportunity to learn together, have fun together, and build confidence in mathematics."
A special thank-you goes out to our math support teachers, Mrs. Finnegan and Mrs. Malone. They planned this night. Our Hometown families and staff members helped make the evening such a success.
