Kangaroo Club

Jump. Jump, Jump

Jumping rope for young children is a difficult skill to master because of all the movements that must be timed alongside coordination.

Ms. Gardner, Sward's PE student teacher, has incorporated a creative and successful way to develop  jump roping skills in PE Class. “In grades K-2, students participated in kangaroo jumping throughout the week. Students received bracelets for their effort and achievement. One of my goals was to include and promote positivity throughout this jumping rope skill week. I saw students utilizing the self-talk of I can try versus I can’t. I awarded a surprise jumper of the day to students that displayed encouragement, great attitude and effort in class.  The students gained confidence and smiles throughout the week.” Ms. Gardner.

Mrs. Kramer, Sward’s Principal, “Our little Eagles were grinning ear to ear as they jumped around! They were so proud to earn their Kangaroo Club bracelets.”

Camden, a first grader, “ I got a different colored bracelet for how many jumps I tried. 5 jumps you get a green bracelet, 10 jumps a purple bracelet and 20 jumps a yellow bracelet. I had so much fun.”

Lucas, a second grader, “I was proud to sign my name when I got to my goal of jumps. I learned how to be positive."

Rosie, a second grader, “ My friend June got the jumper of the day bracelet. I was so happy for her."

"I loved getting a bracelet and wearing it at school. It was fun in PE.” Penny, a second grader.

Great job Ms. Gardner and our little Eagles, keep jumping!
