It's a Small World

Reading aloud to kids builds empathy, creates a love of reading, improves language and listening skills, but most importantly it is FUN! On February 1, 2023 classrooms in D123 and around the world were encouraged to celebrate the power of reading by sharing stories and expand the scope of global literacy. At Sward, OLHMS National Junior Honor Society students visited classrooms and read to students.

This event quickly went from a global vision to a small world as these students were all Sward alumni. It was wonderful to see the students back in the building. As it was only a few years ago that they walked the hallways of Sward as an elementary school student.

Alayna stated, “so memorable seeing my old teachers and classrooms and I am so happy to be back at Sward.”

“I am so happy to read to the students, seeing their reactions to the stories and remembering what it was like when I was in first grade.” Maggie

The OLHMS students shared how nice it was to have a positive impact on the students by promoting reading.  What an incredible day to celebrate World Read Aloud Day and have former students visit Sward and see how much the students enjoyed the stories. Thank you, OLHMS. #WorldReadAloudDay2023
