Honoring Sward's Veterans

Honoring Sward's Veterans

On Friday November 10th, Sward School's Student Council organized a completely student-led Veteran's Day assembly. Mrs. Katalinic and Mrs. Coennan, Sward's Student Council sponsors helped students prepare for this wonderful assembly weeks ahead of time. Mrs. Glikis and the Sward School Chorus performed the Star Spangled Banner as well as the Armed Forces songs. Mrs. Keblusek, Sward's Librarian, helped students write poetry about Veterans which was shared at the assembly. The Sward Cub Scouts under the guidance of Mrs. Bishop presented the American flag at the assembly and led the school in the Pledge of Allegiance. Guest Speaker, Mr. Rob Reichardt, a 21 year Navy Veteran spoke to students about serving in the Navy and how proud he was to be able to share his experience with the children. Students were able to invite a special Veteran in their life to join us at our assembly where they were honored and recognized for their bravery and sacrifice to our country. At the conclusion of the celebration, students and their Veterans were invited to a breakfast to thank them for their service to our country. Mrs. Amra announced that the breakfast items were graciously donated by local businesses in Oak Lawn, including Dunkin Donuts, Huck Finn, Starbucks and The Great American Bagel in Orland Park. We are so grateful to the brave men and women who fight for our freedom everyday and we honor those in our community. Thank you Veterans!
