Welcome Back

Teacher with student

Mrs. Eklin, retired PE teacher and Mr. Muhammad, student teacher.

Mr. Muhammad received a big welcome back as a student teacher in Mrs. Schiestel's PE class. Basil, a Sward Alumnus, has returned to share his love of PE with the Sward students. He shared some thoughts with us:

What is your favorite memory as a Sward Student?

PE class with Mrs. Eklin of course!  Mrs. Eklin was a nice PE teacher. She had a lot of fun games. Having her as a PE teacher was a step in the right direction of me wanting to be a physical education teacher.

When will you graduate?

I am currently in my last semester at Trinity Christian  College. December 8th will be my last day at Sward to finish the requirements for my teaching license.

What is your goal after you graduate?

My goal is to be a PE teacher at the high school level, however OLHMS has an opening. I have applied and maybe I will be hired at the middle school level.

What have you enjoyed the most about being back at Sward and teaching physical education?

I love coming to Sward everyday and teaching these students, I just love it. My hope for all of my students is for them to become physically literate.  Physical literacy is the ability to move with competence and confidence in a wide variety of physical activities in multiple environments that benefit the healthy development of the whole person.

You can also find Mr. Muhammad playing catch at recess and assisting during lunch duty. Thank you Basil Muhammad for choosing Sward to be part of your educational journey.  We wish you the best of luck on the next chapter.
