At Sward School, positive choices are paying off! The school’s PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) store, popularly known as the “Swagle Store,” has quickly become a favorite destination for students. Shopping at the store is providing a fun and meaningful way to celebrate positive behavior.
The PBIS school store is stocked with a variety of exciting items, from school supplies, small toys to special privileges such as sitting with a friend at lunch or even being the PE teacher for the day. Students earn “Eagle Feathers” for demonstrating Sward’s core expectations: being respectful, responsible, and safe. These feathers can then be used to shop at the store during scheduled times.
Teachers and staff say the store has been a powerful motivator for students. “The PBIS store allows us to reinforce positive behavior in a consistent and tangible way,” said Ms. Lettiere, Sward’s PBIS Coach. “Students are not only proud to earn feathers but also learn about saving, making good choices, and planning ahead.”
Beyond encouraging good behavior, the store fosters important life skills. Students practice decision-making, learn the value of delayed gratification when they save feathers for larger prizes, and experience the pride of earning their rewards through effort. One second-grade student even saved her feathers all summer to purchase an oversized toy. The large toy is a reward that will keep her smiling for weeks!
The PBIS store is more than a place to get prizes. It’s a tool that builds a positive school culture where students feel recognized and appreciated. Classes can even collaborate and pool their feathers for special group rewards such as a dance break, crazy hair day, extra computer time, and more.
Keep earning and saving those feathers, Eagles! By combining fun, responsibility, and life lessons, the “Swagle Store” is helping students ignite their potential and elevate their excellence.
