The Sward Kindergarten classrooms were truly moo-ving and egg-citing as students celebrated the culmination of their CKLA farm unit with a lively Barnyard Hoedown. Under the caring guidance of Mrs. Derus, Ms. Grey, and Mrs. Alvarado, the day was udderly packed with hands-on learning and farmyard fun.
The hoedown kicked off with square dancing and cheerful barnyard songs led by Mrs. Glikis. Students were clucking with excitement as they sang, danced, and stomped along, filling the room with smiles and laughter. Throughout the day, kindergartners rotated through farm-fresh activities that helped their learning really take root. One of the highlights was getting the chance to “milk a cow,” an experience that had everyone grinning from ear to ear.
Students also put their literacy skills to good use by reading and writing in their very own farm minibooks. They enjoyed farm sticker activities, painted colorful farm animals, explored farm alphabet activities, and practiced labeling farm scenes, proving they really knew the ropes of farm life.
When it was time to refuel, students enjoyed a special “chicken feed” snack before settling down to relax. The day wrapped up with the animal favorite Zootopia, the perfect way to wind down after a day of barn-burner fun.
The Barnyard Hoedown was a hay-mazing celebration of learning, teamwork, and growth, and a wonderful way for Sward Kindergartners to show off everything they’ve learned thanks to teachers who truly help their students grow from the ground up.
