Sward Celebrates Black History Month

Sward School is proudly celebrating Black History Month with a meaningful and engaging schoolwide research project that highlights the achievements and contributions of influential Black leaders across many fields.

This year, each grade level has been assigned a special theme to explore:

  • Arts
  • Sciences
  • Sports
  • Civil Rights
  • Philanthropy
  • Education

Within their assigned category, each classroom will choose one amazing person to research and showcase. Students will learn about their chosen individual’s life, accomplishments, challenges, and lasting impact on the world. Through reading, writing, discussion, and creative projects, students will dive deeper into history while building important research and presentation skills.

Each classroom door is a vibrant showcase of learning.

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a schoolwide gallery walk, visiting classrooms to view and celebrate one another’s projects. This special experience allows students to learn beyond their own grade level and appreciate the many ways Black Americans have shaped our world.

Families are warmly invited to join us on Wednesday, February 25th at 3:45 PM for a community gallery walk. Guests will be welcomed into the building to tour the hallway displays and celebrate the hard work, creativity, and thoughtful research completed by our students.

Through this collaborative project, Sward School continues to honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future.
