Go for the Gold!

Go for the Gold!

This week, Sward’s 3rd–5th grade students are stepping up to the challenge as they begin their IAR assessments, carrying with them a powerful message that has guided the entire school year: Go for the Gold. Inspired by this year’s Olympic spirit, our students are approaching testing season the same way athletes approach competition with determination, confidence, and pride in all the hard work that has brought them to this moment.

The excitement kicked off with an all-school pep rally led by Mrs. Amra, who energized students and staff alike with reminders of just how much our learners have grown. The rally was not only a celebration of knowledge and perseverance, but also an opportunity to build a sense of community and encouragement across all grade levels. Cheers echoed through the building as students were reminded that they are prepared, capable, and ready to shine.

Our younger students played an important role in setting the stage for success. They learned what it means to support their older peers by being respectful in the hallways, keeping noise levels low, and offering words of encouragement. These lessons help foster a culture of responsibility and kindness, showing that everyone at Sward contributes to a positive testing environment. Many younger students have been reminding their older friends to “go for the gold,” reinforcing the spirit of teamwork that defines our school.

Adding a personal and meaningful touch, each student received a customized gold medal created by their family. These medals, proudly displayed in study carrels during testing, serve as a reminder of the love and support surrounding each child. They symbolize perseverance, effort, and belief, just like a real Olympic medal. In addition, buddy classrooms joined in the excitement by designing their own gold medals for their upper-grade partners, filled with messages of encouragement and confidence.

The school itself has transformed into a celebration of achievement. Teachers worked together to decorate the foyer with festive Olympic-themed displays, including bright balloon arches marking the entrances to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade hallways. Our beloved mascot, Swagle, is proudly sporting a gold medal, and a set of Olympic rings stands as a symbol of unity, effort, and excellence.

As our students begin their assessments, we are reminded that success is not just about scores, it’s about effort, perseverance, and believing in yourself. To our 3rd–5th graders: you have trained, you have practiced, and you are ready! Trust in what you know, take your time, and give it your very best.

You’ve already come so far, now it’s your time to shine. Go for the gold!
