On Friday, May 22nd, Sward Elementary School proudly hosted its exciting “Journey Around the World Day,” a special afternoon dedicated to celebrating the many cultures and traditions represented throughout the school community. Students and staff embraced the event by wearing traditional clothing, carrying flags, sharing customs, and participating in engaging multicultural activities.
One of the featured activities was a Spanish version of Bingo called Lotería. Students in grades K-5 joined together virtually and in classrooms to participate in the interactive game. The game brought excitement, laughter, and learning as students explored traditional Hispanic images and vocabulary in a fun and engaging way.
Throughout the school, students proudly displayed flags from countries including Guatemala, Mexico, and Palestine while wearing beautiful traditional outfits and cultural attire. The event created opportunities for meaningful conversations and helped students learn more about the backgrounds and traditions of their classmates.
The celebration reflected Sward School’s commitment to building a welcoming environment where every student feels valued and represented. Thank you to Ms. Rodriguez, Ms. Kanaan, Ms. Nasadowski and Ms. Sweis for planning this celebration.
“Journey Around the World Day” was more than just a fun activity as it was a meaningful reminder that the diversity within the Sward community is something to celebrate every day.
