Stop! Collaborate and Listen!

Mrs. Wartman's first graders are discussing a book they are about to read.

Collaborative learning is very important to the teachers at Hannum Elementary. In fact, teachers believe that the best resource students have is each other. Creating critical thinking, collaborative learners has always been a goal for all the teachers at Hannum. To help achieve this goal, fifth grade and first grade teachers are currently piloting the ELA curriculum, Wit and Wisdom and the learning taking place in these classrooms is amazing! Students are diving deeper into texts and they are being challenged to think critically about what they are reading. Collaboration takes place daily as students work together to better understand what they are reading and to complete various activities related to the text.  These activities allow students to work on skills that ensure future success such as, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Hannum teachers really are preparing today’s learners for tomorrow’s world.
