Bear Behaviors, Yeah You Know Them!

Hannum students enjoying the PBIS assembly.

Last week students came back to school refreshed and ready to learn after their break. The PBIS team at Hannum decided it would be a perfect time to remind students of behavior expectations. At the beginning of the year, we had a PBIS bootcamp, where teachers discussed bear behaviors for various places in the school. This time, we had a school wide assembly and Mrs. Conner, one of our kindergarten teachers, got everyone amped up by writing a song about bear behaviors. The song was entitled "Bear Behaviors, Yeah You Know Them," and it was sung to tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It." The gym was alive with music as students sang along and named behaviors such as, quiet voices in the hallway and using the bathroom quickly. After the assembly, upper grade levels worked with lower grade levels to create posters and slideshows depicting behaviors that were mentioned in the song. Kindergarteners worked with third graders, first graders worked with fourth graders, and second graders worked with fifth graders. Our older students had a great time with their "little buddies" and the assembly and partner work was a perfect refresher on school behaviors.
