Fun with Fundations

Mrs. Carmichael's second graders enjoying their game of Headbands.

Fundations is a curriculum used in kindergarten through second grade that makes learning to read fun! Fundations builds foundational skills such as letter formation, phonological and phonemic awareness, sound mastery, phonics, trick word (high frequency word) instruction, vocabulary, and spelling. The best part about this curriculum is that it builds these skills and fun and unique ways. Last week, second graders and first graders played  the game "Headbands," to work on different skills. Mrs. Carmichael's second graders worked on trick words while Mrs. Wartman's and Mrs. Roberts first graders worked on phonemic awareness and spelling. Students worked in pairs. One student read the sentence on their partners headband while the other student had to write it. Not only did students love the game, but even Mrs. Wartman said it was, "So much fun!" The students did a great job writing the dictated sentences and there was a lot of fun had!
