A Grand Slam Principal

The White Sox Jersey display

After sixteen years with Anne Marie McGovern leading Hannum Elementary, we say farewell to her at the end of this school year. It’s the end of an era. Hannum teachers and students wanted to find a way to show Mrs. McGovern how much she means to Hannum. As everyone knows, Mrs. McGovern is a huge Chicago White Sox fan. The social committee decided to decorate the office door and windows. They created White Sox jersey’s that had each classrooms photo on it to showcase "Mrs. McGovern's Team." Students also wrote kind messages to her on baseballs. Some of these messages included, “You’re the best principal!” and, “We love you and we’ll miss you!” The decor was topped off with a baseball door display with the words, “We hit a home run having you as principal!” Mrs. McGovern actually walked in as the office was being decorated and she was so surprised! Over her sixteen years at Hannum, Mrs. McGovern has not only been a principal, but she has also been a nurse, a teacher, a mentor, a coach, and a friend. She always has a warm greeting for all her students and staff. Grand slam principals are truly rare, and we were so lucky to have one like her at Hannum.
