Red Carpet Reading Night

Thursday was a Red Carpet Reading Night and official ribbon cutting for the new Hannum Media Center. Media specialists, Mrs. Lazinek and Mrs. Keblusek had the honors of cutting the ribbon.  Mrs. Doornbos stated that it was a well awaited renovation since the previous library had remained unchanged since she was a student at Hannum.  Hannum teachers planned a variety of stations for students to visit that focused on various aspects of literacy.  Each student received a movie ticket and had it punched after finishing each station.  The stations were: Bingo for Books, Design a Candy Wrapper, Reader's Theater, Flashlight Reading, Swat the Star, and Rhythm Music Station.  Each attendant had a photo at the Famous Families Paparazzi station as well.  Students had many opportunities to read and write in a variety of ways along with taking home some very nice books and prizes.  To top off the event, author Wendy Hornik read her book, Harriet Follows Her Heart.  Wendy is a middle school teacher and one of her students helped illustrate the book.  She signed copies of the book for students too.  All Hannum Bears shined extremely bright on this fine night.
