Author Clothilde Ewing visits Hannum School
Hannum School welcomed author, Clothilde Ewing this past Wednesday. As a Chicagoan, Ms. Ewing worked as a journalist and producer for the Oprah Winfrey show. When describing her mission for writing the Stella series books, Ms. Ewing explains on her website, "...to create stories where children of color are not described just by struggle, but by curiosity, adventure, and belonging." Ms. Ewing read her book, Stella and Roger Are on the Move. In the book, the main character, Stella, tries to persuade her parents not to move with some cleverly child-created thinking. Our students were able to see a character with some concerns they may have had, as well as recognizing the setting takes place in Chicago and its familiar surroundings. Ms. Ewing talked to students about how anyone can be an author and to get into the practice of recording their thoughts and stories.
