Let's Go, Mustangs!

At OLHMS, our boys and girls softball teams are competing in the playoffs! Last Thursday, September 29th, the Mustangs took on Liberty in the first round of playoffs. Our boys played together as a team and their bats woke up in the 3rd inning when Angel hit a home run with a runner on second. James had a huge RBI, which gave the Mustangs a 4-1 lead over Liberty. Liberty rallied back and tied up the game at four, but our Mustangs didn’t fold. With the score tied at four, Jake was up to bat with two outs, and two runners on second and third. On the third pitch, Jake hit the ball to right field and had the game winning single to help the Mustangs advance to the second round of the playoffs! The Mustangs played Century yesterday, and had a heartbreaking loss.

For our Lady Mustangs, they have been crushing the competition all year long! The Lady Mustangs earned the 4th seed, which gave them a bye in the first round of the playoffs. They played in the second round of the playoffs yesterday, and had a huge 9-8 win over Century! On defense, Malia pitched the game of her life and Jayla caught several line drives at 3rd. On offense, Kamya hit the game winning triple into deep center field to bring Clark in. Our Lady Mustangs clinched a spot in the semi-finals, and they face the undefeated Evergreen Park Mustangs today. Good Luck to our Lady Mustangs!

In our final OLHMS Cross Country meet at the Humphrey Sports Complex, student-athletes gave it their all in the Conference run. In the 2 mile run, Jimmy O. had a personal record time of 11 minutes and 44 seconds, which placed him 8th overall in the SWIC Conference. In the Open Race, Nathan M., Owen M., and Joel L. placed top 10 and earned an award. Congratulations to our OLHMS student-athletes on a fantastic season!
