"Know-vember" Book Talks

Mrs. McCarthy, OLHMS Media Specialist, and 6th grade students have been hard at work preparing for their “Know-vember” book talks! During ELA classes, 6th grade students visited the library to prepare for a book talk presentation. Each student chose a book they would recommend to another 6th grader. After scholars finished reading their book choice, they recorded their book talk using Flip, a digital video program that converts videos into QR codes. Students shared the title, author, and genre of their chosen book as well as a 3-4 sentence summary and why they would recommend it to a peer. Some of the most popular fiction book talk choices were the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books by Jeff Kinney and a variety of manga and graphic novel books.

The nonfiction books were most popular during this visit to the Media Center! The most popular nonfiction topics were related to self-help, mental health, executive functioning, cyberbullying, robots, the World Cup, biographies about famous athletes, and more! We hope OLHMS scholars are inspired by their peers to choose a new book to read this month!
