Musical Mustangs

The OLHMS Band program has been very busy the past month! November started out with the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) auditions. The state is broken into different districts. OLHMS falls into District 1 which extends from Elmhurst to Joliet and down to Downers Grove. Student musicians are required to send in video audition tapes to be able to perform at the concerts.

On November 5th, Lincoln Way Central hosted the honor band day where students performed and watched the Junior Concert Festival. 8th grader Jimmy O’Shea was asked to submit an audition tape and perform for this ILMEA event. OLHMS band students also attended the Junior/Senior Jazz Band Festival at York High School on November 12th.

The rest of November focused on Veterans’ Day for our band scholars! Band students performed at the OLHMS Veterans’ Day assembly. They also took a trip to the Village VFW to perform for veterans. Students focused on learning and performing patriotic music during this month. In addition, the OLHMS band performed patriotic tunes for the 5th grade beginning band students.

Rounding out the month was the Fall Band Concert. Again, patriotic music was the main focus as well as some traditional band numbers. The highlight of the Fall Concert was when students performed Tempest of GhostBusters! The audience was cheering for more!
