Eat. Sleep. Game. Repeat.

Eat. Sleep. Game. Repeat.

The gaming world has taken over OLHMS! For the first time, we now offer eSports to students! In order to be on the eSports team, gamers needed to try out for their specialized game. Gamers could play any game they chose during meetings, but when it came time to compete, they had to choose which game they knew best!

Mrs. McCarthy and Mrs. Reidl, eSports sponsors, were awarded a grant to start up the eSports team at OLHMS. With the grant, they were able to purchase a few PlayStation 5 consoles to play Madden, NBA 2K, and FIFA. They also secured a few Nintendo Switch consoles to play Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Finally, the grant allowed for a few gaming laptops to be purchased to play Rocket League.

This was the first tournament held at OLHMS, though our eSports team was able to get their feet wet at the Evergreen Park High School tournament earlier this year. Mrs. McCarthy and Mrs. Reidl set up the brackets for each game and had trophies waiting for the winners. Parents eagerly watched as their e-athlete battled through each round. If a gamer was eliminated from the bracket, they cheered on their teammates but also had the option to have some “free-play” with a game of their choice.

The OLHMS eSports champions included Eron who won Super Smash Bros., Ezekiel who won Mario Kart, Joey who won Madden, Julius who won NBA 2K, and Liam who won Rocket League! Congratulations to all eSports gamers! We can’t wait to see what else you accomplish this year!
