Mustang Musicians are going to STATE!

Mustang Musicians are going to STATE!

The OLHMS Band and Choir represented our school in Manhattan this past Saturday, March 11th, at the Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) District VI Organization Contest!

Band Directors Mr. John Kehl and Mrs. Beth Lyons along with Choir Director Ms. Kayla Hughes began preparing students for this contest all school year! The OLHMS Jazz Ensemble Band, Concert Band, and Concert Chorus all competed.

The Jazz Ensemble performed two selections and participated in an educational workshop. The clinicians commented on our musical Mustangs' professionalism and were impressed by their improvised solos.

The Concert Band music selections included Night Fury by Carol Brittin Chambers, As Twilight Falls by Robert Sheldon, and Loyalty March by Larry Clark.

The Concert Chorus music selections included Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel? by Greg Gilpin, Oceans and Stars by Amy Bernon, and Ad Astra by Jacob Narverud.

We are pleased to announce that the Concert Band and Concert Chorus each received a Division 1 rating and qualified for the upcoming IGSMA State Contest on Saturday, April 29th!

We are so proud of our Mustang Musicians!
