A Successful Declamation Season!

A Successful Declamation Season!

Just before spring break, our OLHMS students took their talents to Liberty Middle School in Burbank to compete against every school in the SWIC Conference for Declamation. Ms. Kennedy led and coached the Declamation Team of seven OLHMS students ranging from 6-8th grade. Students worked day in and day out to perfect their performances through after school practices and hosting performances in the library for students to watch and support the Declamation Team.

Students, along with their act, competed in yesterday’s SWIC Conference Tournament are as followed:

Humorous Duet-- Olivia Lara and Abby Gubanski, Playground Purgatory by Colin Nissan

Oratorical Declamation-- Malak Daifallah, Bring on the Cheesecake! By Katherine Jackson

Prose-- Lucy Witt--A Jar Full of Secrets by Wendy Nikel

Poetry-- Peyton Marshall--The Spark Inside You: A Program featuring

“I Like to Think of Harriet Tubman” by Susan Griffin and “For Teenage Girls with Wild Ambitions and Trembling Hearts” by Clementine von Radics

Humorous Interpretation--Anthony Hannan--The Adventures of Captain Neat-O Man by Timothy Harris

Overall, our OLHMS students had a fantastic and successful season with a 6th place finalist in oratorical declamation, a 6th place finalist in dramatic interpretation, a 3rd place in poetry, a 2nd place in humorous interpretation, and a 2nd place in humorous duet.

We are so proud of our OLHMS students and thankful to Ms. Kennedy for all her dedication to our Declamation team!
