Our 8th grade students recently embarked on an unforgettable field trip to the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry for the Superhuman Body Meet Her 2025 event. This unique experience brought science, technology, and inspiration together in one powerful day.
Students had the honor of hearing from Dr. Driver of the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, who shared her personal journey and professional experiences in the world of advanced rehabilitation and medical innovation. Her presentation sparked curiosity and excitement, and students eagerly asked thoughtful questions throughout her talk.
Following the presentation, students dove into hands-on STEM learning led by engineers, therapists, and medical professionals from the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab. Interactive centers included explorations in bionics, prosthetic design (featuring a working myoelectric hand), and real-time research in next-generation rehabilitation technology. Other highlights included learning about assistive technology and participating in adaptive sports demonstrations.
This incredible opportunity not only broadened students’ understanding of medical science but also introduced them to the people and possibilities shaping the future of human ability. It was a day of learning, discovery, and inspiration that left a lasting impression on all who attended.
