Fall Band Concert

The OLHMS Fall Band Concert brought an evening of talent, pride, and spirited music to the school gym on Thursday, November 13th at 7 p.m. Under the direction of band teachers Mrs. Beth Lyons and Mr. John Kehl, the Intermediate Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Ensemble each took the stage to showcase months of hard work and dedication.

The Intermediate Band opened the night with powerful energy, performing Battle of the Samurai by Timothy Loest and River’s Bend March by Bruce Pearson, along with several other crowd-pleasing selections. Their confident start set the tone for a memorable performance lineup.

The Concert Band followed with a moving and patriotic set. Their performance of The Star-Spangled Banner by John Stafford Smith filled the room with pride, and their musical setting of The Gettysburg Address by Michael Story featured a thoughtful narration by 7th grader Ryan S. The ensemble continued with additional patriotic pieces that highlighted both musical skill and emotional depth.

Rounding out the evening, the Jazz Ensemble delivered an exciting finale with selections including Kaleidoscope by Eric Morales, Flight of the Foo Birds by Neil Hefti (arr. R. Phillippe), and the always-fun Soul Man by Isaac Hayes and David Porter (arr. R. Phillippe). Their upbeat style and polished sound brought the audience to its feet.

The OLHMS Music Booster Association also shared a thoughtful message during the event, highlighting upcoming activities and fundraisers that support the band program throughout the year.

It was an inspiring night of music, teamwork, and community—one that showcased the incredible talent of our student musicians and the dedication of the staff and families who support them.
