Oak Lawn Hometown Middle School’s library has been awarded the “My Library Is…” Grant from the Reaching Across Illinois Library System, earning nearly $4,600 to expand its MakerSpace.
Through the project, “My Library Is… Making a Difference,” students will use new 3D printers to design and create assistive devices for individuals with disabilities across the U.S. and Canada. In partnership with Makers Making Change and the Illinois Assistive Technology Program, students will respond to real needs, with a goal of producing 40–60 devices in the first year.
“This is truly a student-driven project,” said Mrs. McCarthy. “Students are excited to create something that can make a real difference.”
This initiative highlights OLHMS’s commitment to combining technology, service, and real-world impact.
