Mustangs Finish Spring Season Strong

Aubree C clears the hurdles at the SWIC Conference Track Meet

It has been an exciting spring season for OLHMS athletics, with both our track teams and soccer teams representing the Mustangs with hard work, determination, and school pride!

At the 2026 SWIC Conference Meet, OLHMS athletes earned several outstanding finishes. The 8th grade boys team led the way with an impressive 2nd place overall finish, while the 8th grade girls earned 5th place. The 6th/7th grade girls finished 6th overall and the 6th/7th grade boys placed 7th.

Several Mustangs brought home conference championships and top finishes. Caleb Lejawa earned 1st place in the 100m and helped lead both the 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams to 1st place finishes for the 8th grade boys. Jase Finley captured 1st place in the high jump and was also part of the winning relay teams. Dillon Reynolds earned 1st place in the 110m hurdles for the 8th grade boys.

OLHMS athletes also collected numerous 2nd and 3rd place finishes throughout the meet. Aubree Cunningham placed 2nd in the 110m hurdles for the 6th/7th grade girls, while Christina Flisak earned 2nd place in the 800m for the 8th grade girls. Teagan McIntosh finished 2nd in the 400m for the 6th/7th grade girls, and Jimena Gonzalez took 2nd in the 400m for the 8th grade girls. In the 200m, Caleb Lejawa added another medal with a 2nd place finish for the 8th grade boys.

The relay teams also had an outstanding performance at conference. The 6th/7th grade boys 4x100m relay team of Cian Sullivan, Thaylor Jennings, Christian Sebek, and Mason Shepard earned 3rd place. The 6th/7th grade boys 4x200m relay team of Cian Sullivan, Thaylor Jennings, Jeremy Musa, and Mason Shepard also finished 3rd. In the 4x400m relay, the 6th/7th grade boys team of Aiden Gomez, Yeshua Popitan, Marco Mares, and Santiago Serna placed 3rd, while both the 8th grade girls team and 8th grade boys team also earned 3rd place finishes.

Strong performances continued in the distance events as Joe Bertalmio earned 3rd place in the 1600m for the 6th/7th grade boys. Many other Mustangs contributed valuable points and represented OLHMS with pride throughout the competition.

The OLHMS soccer teams also had an incredible season this spring. The boys soccer team finished the regular season with a strong 7-3-1 record and earned 4th place in the SWIC Tournament. Ayden Duria led the team in scoring with 7 goals and helped power the Mustangs throughout the season.

The girls soccer team had a record-breaking year, finishing the regular season 8-3 and advancing all the way to the SWIC Championship game, where they earned 2nd place in the tournament. Zoe Camarena led the offense with 17 goals, while Natalia Orejel added 14 goals during the season.

Congratulations to all of our OLHMS student-athletes and coaches on an amazing spring season. Your dedication, teamwork, and Mustang pride made our school community proud!
