As the 2025-2026 school year comes to a close, our OLHMS Mustangs have truly lived out this year's theme: Level Up! Throughout the year, students challenged themselves academically, athletically, socially, and personally, growing into stronger learners and leaders. As we reflect on the final weeks of the school year, it's clear that every Mustang found a way to level up.
Our 6th and 7th grade students wrapped up the year with exciting field trips that combined learning and fun. Seventh graders traveled into the heart of Chicago for the Chicago Architecture Boat Tour, where they explored the city's rich history and world-famous skyline from a unique perspective. Sixth graders enjoyed a memorable trip to Hollywood Park In the Game, experiencing interactive activities, games, and rides to celebrate their success this year.
The PTSA continued to support our students in meaningful ways throughout the spring. Sixth graders were treated to a special ice cream event during lunch, featuring scoops generously donated by Culver's with a variety of delicious toppings. The PTSA also sponsored our 6th and 7th Grade Awards Breakfasts, where Student of the Month recipients and Trimester Mustang Award winners were celebrated alongside their families for their hard work, character, and achievements throughout the year.
Our 8th grade students enjoyed several memorable traditions as they prepared to leave OLHMS. Their trip to Great America was filled with beautiful weather, exciting rides, and time spent making lasting memories with friends. They also celebrated at the annual 8th Grade Dance, themed Miami Nights, where students enjoyed an evening of music, dancing, and fun. A special thank you goes to the PTSA for sponsoring this unforgettable event.
The 8th Grade Awards Ceremony showcased the incredible accomplishments of the graduating class. Students were recognized for academic excellence, athletic achievements, scholarships, and honors earned at their future high schools. The ceremony highlighted the dedication and perseverance that our students have demonstrated throughout their middle school years.
One of the most meaningful traditions of the year was the Graduation Walk. Our soon-to-be graduates returned to the elementary schools where their educational journeys began. Students had the opportunity to reconnect with former teachers, celebrate with younger students, and serve as role models for future Mustangs by showing them what lies ahead.
Finally, our 8th graders crossed the stage as the 20th Graduating Class of OLHMS. Their accomplishments, growth, and resilience have made their families, teachers, and the entire OLHMS community incredibly proud. As they move on to high school, they leave behind a legacy of leadership, determination, and Mustang pride.
The year concluded with our Trimester 3 Celebration, where 6th and 7th grade students competed in exciting free-throw and Gaga Ball tournaments. The event was a fun way to recognize students for their hard work and positive choices while bringing classmates together one last time before summer break.
Congratulations to all of our students on a successful school year. Thank you to our staff, families, PTSA, and community members for your continued support. We wish everyone a safe, relaxing summer and look forward to seeing our Mustangs continue to level up in the years ahead!
Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang!
