Nursery Rhyme Olympics

Kindergarten students at Kolmar Elementary recently completed their first unit in the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum—Nursery Rhymes and Fables—with an exciting and imaginative celebration: the Nursery Rhyme Olympics. Throughout the unit, students were immersed in classic nursery rhymes and timeless fables, building foundational literacy skills through listening and discussion. As they explored these stories, students learned to identify rhyming words, recognize main characters and events, and were introduced to new vocabulary such as “boasting” and “moral.” To mark the end of the unit, Kindergarten teachers organized a lively “Nursery Rhyme Olympics,” where students worked in teams to complete themed activities inspired by the rhymes and stories they studied. Events included fun, hands-on challenges that brought characters like Humpty Dumpty and the Tortoise and the Hare to life in creative and engaging ways. The Olympics served as both a celebration of learning and a reinforcement of key concepts from the unit. Congratulations to our Kindergarteners on a successful start to their CKLA journey—and a big thank you to the teachers who made learning so joyful and meaningful!
