Little scientists

On April 28, the Kolmar Avenue Elementary gym transformed from a standard PE space into a high-energy laboratory. Students were treated to a hair-raising assembly featuring the "very amazing" Professor Rick, whose hands-on demonstrations proved that science is just as much about spectacle as it is about study.

There is only so much you can learn about community and commerce from a textbook. This week, the third-grade math enrichment students from District 123 decided to see the real thing for themselves, trading their desks for a day-long tour of Oak Lawn’s most important landmarks.

At Kolmar, the PTA hit it out of the park this year by switching things up! We were thrilled to host our first-ever Special Lady & Son Dance, and based on the smiles filling the room, it was a fantastic change of pace.

On March 19, Kolmar students kicked off spring break with excitement during their annual Spring Parties! This beloved tradition brings joy to every classroom, as students take part in a variety of fun-filled activities.

CASE Munchie Market

Kolmar’s CASE program is always finding new and creative ways to bring life skills to students—and their latest initiative has quickly become a school favorite! Since launching in November, the CASE “Munchie Market” has skyrocketed into one of the most exciting and meaningful experiences for both students and staff.

On Friday, March 5th, Kolmar students gathered in the gym for an exciting all-school assembly to celebrate the end of the 2nd trimester.

On Friday, February 13th, the PTA hosted a night to remember at Kolmar’s annual Special Daughter Dance! Fathers and daughters arrived dressed to the nines, ready to make memories and dance the night away.

Kolmar Explores 3D Printers

The Ed Foundation granted 3D printers to elementary schools this year, and at Kolmar, we are excited to explore them more each day. This new technology opens the door to hands-on learning, creativity, and problem-solving for our students.

Wild Harts Comes to Kolmar

Kindergarten students at Kolmar have been busy learning all about farms in their CKLA unit—and they got a very special surprise visitor! Our school’s SRO, Officer Craig Zelhart, came to share something exciting: he actually owns a real farm called Wild Harts Farm!

Coyotes That Care

On Tuesday, January 13, the district held its Board of Education meeting, where the Coyotes received well-deserved recognition. Earlier this school year, third- through fifth-grade students were invited to participate in a program called Coyotes That Care.

On Thursday, December 18th, Kolmar held its first assembly of the year, and it was definitely one to remember. This was not a typical assembly—instead of just sitting and listening, students got to be part of the action!

On Thursday, December 11, fourth-grade students traded their classrooms for dinosaur bones and ancient fossils during an exciting field trip to the Field Museum.

On Wednesday, December 10th, Kolmar’s K–2 students and choir members put on a holiday concert that truly felt like the start of the season. The kids showed up in their nicest outfits, looking excited and a little nervous in the best way.

Fall Fest Fun

On Friday, November 22, Kolmar students wrapped up the trimester with a fun-filled Fall Fest—and the excitement was everywhere! After weeks of showing the 3 Bs — Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe — students earned a well-deserved break packed with laughter, creativity, and friendly competition.

On Saturday, November 8, the Girls on the Run club burst onto the scene with their very first 5K at Jackson Park! Club coordinators Mrs. Koster and Ms. Waclaw rallied staff to come cheer, celebrate, and even lace up their own running shoes to join the fun.

On Tuesday, November 11th, Kolmar school honored veterans with a special all-school assembly. Mr. Creech opened the event and invited the chorus to lead students and staff in singing the National Anthem

On Friday, October 24, the Kolmar PTA held its 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat! Families decorated their cars, and kids went from trunk to trunk collecting candies, treats, and trinkets.

On Thursday, October 23rd, Kolmar kindergarten students enjoyed an exciting field trip to Brookfield Zoo! In science class, students have been learning about the needs of plants and animals, as well as the habitats they live in.

To celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), our EL team has put together a beautiful altar, or ofrenda, for Kolmar staff to honor and remember their loved ones who have passed away.

Boys in the Corn!

On Thursday, October 9th, the first-grade teachers and their classes took a fun-filled fall field trip to Konow’s Corn Maze!
