The lakefront was filled with energy this past Saturday, May 9th, as the Kolmar Club’s "Girls on the Run" successfully completed their first-ever spring season with a celebratory 5K at Grant Park.
The event, held at the Lower Hutchinson and Avery Fields, served as the grand finale for a season defined by perseverance, teamwork, and growth. For many of the participants, crossing the finish line was the culmination of months of physical and mental preparation.
Leading up to the big day, the team met every Tuesday and Thursday to build their endurance. Under the guidance of their dedicated coaches, Ms. Koster and Ms. Waclaw, the girls didn't just focus on running—they focused on confidence.
To give the team an extra boost, the coaches invited Kolmar staff members to join their final practice session the Thursday before the race. This "Staff Appreciation Run" proved to be a major morale booster, creating a sea of support that carried the girls right into the weekend.
The atmosphere on Saturday was electric. Despite the nerves that come with a final race, the Kolmar athletes showed up energized and ready to give their absolute best. They weren't alone, either; several Kolmar staff members traveled downtown to cheer from the sidelines, with some even lacing up their sneakers to run the 3.1 miles alongside the students.
As the girls crossed the finish line in the heart of Chicago, they didn't just earn a medal—they proved that with the right coaching and a supportive community, they can go the distance.
