From royal crowns to 3D-printed inventions, the Kolmar gym was transformed into a bustling hub of history on Tuesday, May 12, for the annual fifth-grade Renaissance and Inventor Fair.
The event allowed fifth graders to step out of the textbook and into the shoes of the historical figures they’ve been studying in their CKLA Renaissance unit. Students got to choose their own subjects, resulting in a vibrant mix of artists, scientists, scholars, and royalty. Fifth-grade CASE and PTP students added to the variety by showcasing brilliant inventors from throughout history.
"Stoked" to show off their expertise, the students poured hours of research into their projects both at school and at home. The assignment was no small feat: it required a five-paragraph essay, a Google Slides presentation, and a tri-fold display poster.
But the real fun came with the presentations. Students dressed in full costume, brought in symbolic items, and presented their research to kindergarten through fourth-grade classes during gym periods.
The entire Kolmar community walked away learning something new, and the fifth graders had a blast showing off their hard work. Way to go, fifth grade!
