Kolmar 2nd Graders Step Back in Time

To wrap up their units on ancient Greek civilizations and Greek myths, Kolmar 2nd graders participated in “Greek Day!” They wore togas (tablecloths) and crowns made out of olive branches (colored). The day was filled with activities that reinforced what they had learned over the past several weeks. They created pokemon cards for different gods and goddesses, created a parthenon out of marshmallows and toothpicks, designed their own pottery, and even participated in an olympic event! Students had a blast throwing the discus and measuring how far they threw it. They ended the day with the Hercules movie. Students enjoyed it very much. 2nd Grade teacher Bridget Fitzgerald said, “We wanted to celebrate everything they had learned. They were both very in depth units and the students loved them and were sad they were ending. We wanted to end on a positive note with something special.” With this being the first time our teachers taught this new CKLA lesson, it was the first time they celebrated Greek Day. It is definitely a tradition they plan to continue!
