A Season to Remember

A Season to Remember

After endless hours of practice and countless wins, our 6/7th and 8th grade boys basketball and 8th grade girls volleyball programs all made it to their SWIC Championship game last Saturday, March 12th. For the first time in our school history, we had three teams participating in championship games within the same season!

In the 6/7th grade boys basketball game, Mateo, Logan, and Carter were the leaders throughout the game. From start to finish, our Mustangs trailed the Wildcats, but kept it in a close range. Mateo dominated the boards and went up strong to the rim from the first to the last whistle, while Logan created great opportunities for his teammates to score, and was an offensive threat ending with double-digits. In the end, the Mustangs had a heart-breaking two point loss against the Wildcats. Our Mustangs earned second place, and Mateo, Logan, and Carter were named SWIC All Conference players.

In our 8th grade boys basketball championship game, our Mustangs started off strong against Evergreen with a 6-0 run. Jack led all players in points and rebounds, Justin dished out assists and went to the basket strong, Michael cleaned up the boards, and Martice had key buckets throughout the game. In the end, our Mustangs lost to Evergreen by double-digits. The Mustangs ended the season with three losses on the season, first in their division, and second in the SWIC tournament; Jack and Justin were named SWIC All Conference players.

Last but certainly not least, our 8th grade Lady Mustangs had a dynamite season ending with a 17-2 record, which would be the best in the conference. In the championship game, the Mustangs gave it their all against the Palos Cardinals. The Mustangs lost to the Cardinals in two sets, but they played their hearts out until the end. Our Lady Mustangs earned first in the division and second place in the SWIC volleyball tournament.

We are SO proud of our OLHMS student-athletes for their ongoing dedication, hard work, and resilience. We cannot wait to see what their future holds!
