District 123 Board approves new Director of Literacy & Intervention

At the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 Board of Education meeting on March 15, 2021 the Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Kathleen Spreitzer to the district leadership position of Director of Literacy and Intervention for School District 123.

Dr. Spreitzer has been in District 123 for the past 12 years first serving as Assistant Principal of Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School and then as Principal of Hometown Elementary School for the last eight years. Dr. Spreitzer brings a great deal of experience as an administrator and classroom teacher. She began her career at Palos South Middle School in Palos School District 118 teaching English Language Arts for 13 years. In addition to helping lead Hometown School, Dr. Spreitzer has led various district-level curricular initiatives, most notably the MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) Task Force. Dr. Spreitzer and staff members from all district schools examined, modified, and bolstered intervention programs and structures. Dr. Spreitzer earned her Bachelor’s degree from Loyola University, her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis, her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Governors State University and has most recently completed her doctoral work at the University of St. Francis.

Dr. Spreitzer brings a high degree of curricular expertise and knowledge of intervention systems to this district-wide leadership role. She enthusiastically looks forward to engaging students, families, and staff to build upon the strength of the current English Language Arts (ELA) written curriculum and looks forward to continuing her service to the entire Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 learning community. – Paul Enderle, Superintendent

Dr. Spreitzer will begin her new role within District 123 on July 1, 2021.  District 123 will seek to fill the Hometown School principalship this spring.
