Trimester 3 Plan / Letter from the Superintendent

Letter-from-the-Superintendent

The following was a letter sent to all District 123 Families regarding the options for students during Trimester 3.

District 123 Families:

After successfully transitioning back to our hybrid in-person model on January 19th we are setting our sights on planning for the 3rd Trimester. As we remain committed to reviewing pandemic conditions on a daily basis, we are excited that many of the circumstances around the pandemic are showing improvement locally and throughout the State of Illinois. Positivity rates are decreasing and various counties including Suburban Cook are experiencing reduced community spread. With these signs of the virus possibly slowing down and the presence of a vaccine for staff becoming a reality, we have been in the process of planning for the 3rd Trimester. We are examining ways to phase-in more students to in-person school on a 5-day a week basis in a slow and safe manner, while also honoring our commitment to families who have opted for the fully remote learning program. As with each of our pandemic plans over the past year, we plan to accomplish this in a progressive fashion, while honoring the voice of our families and staff, as well as remaining true to COVID-19 safety mitigations. Listed below is a basic description of the instructional programming options for families during Trimester 3.

OPTION # 1 – Hybrid “Transitional” Learning

  • In-Person Classes 8:25a-3:20p
    • Phase 1 – March 2 – April 1: Alternating Day Hybrid (35-40% Student Capacity)
    • Phase 2 – April 7 – April 30: Blended approach using both Hybrid (35-40% Student Capacity) and Full-day (70-80% Student Capacity) Options
    • Phase 3 – May 3 – June 4: Full 5-Day Week Programing (70-80% Student Capacity)
  • Students choosing the Hybrid/Transitional model will remain in their current “A” or “B” cohort groups.
  • Please see the Trimester 3 Hybrid “Transitional” Learning Calendar to review the schedule for in-person sessions.
  • All COVID-19 public health and safety measures that have been exercised in the past will continue.
  • Program progression is contingent on COVID-19 conditions this spring. Any dramatic changes to the public health landscape may result in adjustments to this transitional plan, similar to our “Adaptive Pause” that was exercised in December as we experienced a heightened resurgence of the virus.

OPTION # 2 – Full-time Remote Learning

  • A minimum of 2.5 hours of remotely delivered live instruction
  • Additional teacher-supported and independent opportunities
  • Daily attendance expectation
  • Mon-Fri 8:25a-3:20p

We are incredibly proud to have provided all of our students safe and meaningful instructional programming during the course of this pandemic year. As we seek to move forward into Trimester 3, our door is always open to help families by adding clarity around our decisions and answer any questions that come along the way. Thank you for your continued partnership in the education of our community’s children.

Sincerely,
Paul J. Enderle, Superintendent
