The following is a letter sent to families that from Superintendent Paul Enderle about the Return to School survey.
On June 23, 2020, the Illinois State Board of Education released its latest guidance document, which includes both recommendations and mandates for the reopening of schools in the 2020-2021 school year. The document was created by the Illinois State Board of Education in partnership with the Illinois Department of Public Health. As a school district, both prior to and following the release of this guidance we have been working to create a reopening plan with our community’s voice as our foundation.
Since June 4, our administrative team has developed diverse planning teams at each D123 school. They have considered the following topics as the draft plans develop: scheduling, transportation, students and staff wearing face coverings, and social distancing. As we continue our planning and transition efforts at District 123, we are, and will remain deeply committed to the following:
- The safety and wellbeing of all students, staff, and families.
- A high quality and equitable educational experience.
- The maintenance of established calendars and schedules.
- Ongoing community input through advisory planning teams and surveys.
- Frequent communication and updates about the new school year.
Utilizing the State guidance, we will continue our work and encourage our students, families, and community members to share any thoughts or concerns they may have with our teams. By the end of July, our goal is to present the School District 123 Reopening Plan to the community. The plan will take into consideration the academic, safety, health, and social-emotional needs of our students.
