District 123 Celebrates Our Heroes

Celebrates Our Heroes

The students enrolled at District 123 weren’t even alive when the attacks on September 11th took place, however, because it is such it is a pivotal point in our nation’s history each school chose to acknowledge the day in their own way.

Each school started the day with a moment of silence to remember the victims of September 11, 2001, in addition to the pledge. Over at Sward school students in Mrs. Trabadela’s room focused on learning more about the heroes of the day, First responders, Fire Fighters, and even dogs that helped to evacuate the buildings and help the injured. Students then wrote about their own personal hero.

At Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School, students in Mrs. Georgelos’ and Mr. Mamolella’s classes made their way to the September 11th Memorial at the Oak Lawn Village Hall Campus. The memorial features beams from the World Trade Center buildings and helps humanize the day for the students and gives them an opportunity to pay respects to the victims.
