D123 Alum Gives Back to Elementary School

Alum Gives

A District 123 alum wanted to give back to his elementary school as part of a project for Eagle Scouts.

Ethan O’Dea was in Cub Scouts when he discovered Gaga Ball at a camp. Camp Tecumseh has several Gaga Ball Pits built on decks for kids to play and enjoy the game. When it came time for O’Dea to decide on an Eagle Scout Project he knew he wanted to provide his elementary school with something he knew the students would enjoy. That is when he proposed the project to Mr. Creech, the Principal at Kolmar School and work began.

O’Malley Construction donated materials and signs for the project and other families helped raise funds for the project. After five days, the six volunteers completed the Gaga Ball Court for Kolmar students to enjoy.

“I wanted to give back to the school that I attended because I’m grateful for the education that I received from Kolmar. I know this project will be enjoyed by many kids in our area,” he said.

This year alone, Troop 596 had six Life Scouts complete their Eagle Projects during the pandemic. The Eagle Scout Project is the opportunity for a scout to demonstrate leadership of others while performing a project for the benefit of his community. Ethan attended Kolmar School for 8 years and credits this school for his great educational foundation.
