Coronavirus Informational Letter from the Superintendent to the Community

Coronavirus Informational Letter

February 28, 2020 – The following is a letter that was sent from Superintendent Paul Enderle to the District 123 community regarding recent coronavirus information.

Good afternoon,

The health and safety of all District 123 students is our highest priority. We are paying close attention to the recent news and information in the media about the coronavirus illness. With an increased level of awareness around this illness, it is important that we rely on prevention measures both while at school and while at home.

The Illinois Department of Public Health encourages you to follow common sense strategies for preventing the spread of communicable diseases including:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Currently the Illinois Department of Public Health is not recommending the use of masks or gloves in public settings and does not recommend cancelling any classes or after-school activities. To see the complete recommendations to Illinois public schools from IDPH, please click here.

District 123 will continue with our robust set of cleaning procedures throughout each of the district buildings. Classrooms are routinely cleaned and sanitized, and staff members have been reminded to promote universal strategies among students, including frequent hand washing. We will continue to closely monitor recommendations regarding coronavirus and will update you as soon as there are any significant changes in recommendations for schools.

Sincerely,

Paul Enderle Ed.D.
Superintendent
