Transitioning from 5th Grade to Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School

Transitioning from 5th Grade

In an effort to make the incoming 6th-grade class feel more comfortable with the transition from elementary to middle school administrators have compiled a few interactive materials for current 5th graders to introduce them to OLHMS.

Students can utilize a Flipgrid of frequently asked questions at OLHMS. To help provide a few familiar faces come August, the staff has introduced themselves. Students interested in Spanish can access this video and decide what class might interest them! Finally, a day in the life video takes students on an interactive day at OLHMS from class to lunch and various encore classes.

“The orientational videos provide an overview of what to expect at OLHMS, including all the classes, programs, and activities available.  These links offer our 5th grade scholars and parents an opportunity to meet the staff and learn about courses and clubs.  This is our virtual way of extending a warm welcome!  If any of our guests wish to add questions please post to the Student Frequently Asked Questions Flipgrid link and responses can be generated,” said OLHMS Principal Sean McNichols.
