District 123 welcomed 27 new teachers and staff to the team this year! During the three-day New Teacher Orientation, the new staff members got an overview of programs, curriculum, and technology practices in the District.

New Faculty members were introduced to a variety of programs in District 123 including the Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) initiative, Instructional Coaching, and Early Learning program. They also had the opportunity to meet their mentors, who will work and help guide them along in their transition to District 123.

“I am looking most forward to working with such a diverse group of students. Creating a fun, safe, and culturally relevant classroom where both the students and the teacher are learning from one another. I am excited to form lasting relationships with my students and the family of OLHMS & D123 as a whole,” said Yusra Maan, a new 7th grade ELA Teacher at OLHMS.

Curriculum Facilitators provided an introduction to our ELA and Math curricula as well as Standards-Based Grading, the district Chief Information Officer provided an introduction to technology practices at D123 as well.

“I am most looking forward to getting to know my students and watching them grow over the year. This is my first classroom and I am just excited to make it my own and make it a place that is fun but also where kids feel safe,” said Sara Becker, a new teacher at Hometown.

In addition to this professional learning, new faculty had the chance to check out their new classrooms and prepare for the year ahead.
