Students at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School are prepping for the first ever Live Like Abby Walk-a-thon taking place at OLHMS on Friday, May 10, 2019. For a $20 donation, students can participate in the event and will receive a Go Gray in May t-shirt from the Live Like Abby foundation. All donations will go toward the dream team at Lurie Children’s Hospital as they work to find a cure for Pediatric Cancers.
“OLHMS is honored to be honoring the memory of Abby Wujcik, who would have been an 8th Grade Mustang this year. Our school community has the power to make real change with the money collected that will be put toward brain cancer research and advancements so that no young life is taken as Abby’s was. Abby earned beads for enduring the hardships of cancer – it was 17 feet long. Our Mustangs will earn their beads for the good they do as well as the money they raise. If she could fight cancer, we can do this,” said Kathy Ogean.
Abby was a 6-year-old student at Kolmar when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After 15 months of a courageous battle, she passed away at age 8. Her parents joined with the John McNicholas Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation as Live Like Abby to honor her and help raise funds for pediatric brain tumor research. The Foundation also promotes awareness and education about this terrible disease, the inadequacy of treatment options and the need for new approaches in care.
