Sward Students and Cub Scouts Help Keep Sward's Garden Beautiful

Every day is a good day for a good deed.

Sward Elementary's Watering Team, a part of Local Cub Scout Pack 3618, dedicates a few weeks every summer to keep the gardens beautiful when school is not in session.

Two of the Cub Scout leaders, Rick and Kathy Minarik, noticed a call to action after seeing a Facebook post from the Sward PTA asking for mulch. Rick and Kathy donated bags of red mulch in the name of Cub Scout Pack 3618. Two of the Scouts and Sward students, Ricky and Frank M., helped finish the job by spreading the mulch around the front garden.

Cub Scouts learn how to be good citizens and are encouraged to “Do a Good Turn” or a good deed every day. The organization focuses on community, service projects, and helping to preserve the natural world through acts of conservation. This project covered all three tenants of their mission.

Ricky M., Frank M., and Lucy B. (part of Sward’s Watering Team) are all students at Sward and members of Pack 3618 that meets at Trinity Church on Brandt Ave on Sundays, starting again with the new school year.
