The Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School Concert Band has achieved an outstanding accomplishment, earning a High Honors Superior Plus rating at the Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) State Contest. The event was held on Saturday, April 25, at Hinsdale South High School.
This prestigious recognition reflects the exceptional dedication, musicianship, and teamwork of the school’s 7th and 8th-grade band students, who are currently in their third and fourth years of instrumental music study within District 123. The Concert Band demonstrated a high level of musical excellence, precision, and artistry.
The IGSMA State Contest is known for its rigorous judging process, where ensembles are evaluated by a panel of experienced judges on criteria including stage appearance, tone quality, intonation, balance & blend, technique, interpretation, and rhythmic precision. Receiving a High Honors Superior Plus rating places the OLHMS Concert Band among the very best middle school ensembles in Illinois.
Band teachers and school staff commend the students for their commitment to regular practice, rehearsals, and their passion for music. Their achievement highlights not only their individual talents but also the strength of the music education program within School District 123.
Congratulations to all members of the Concert Band on this remarkable success!
