In a vibrant celebration of creativity and talent, the annual Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 Art Extravaganza transformed the Middle School gymnasium and media center into a mesmerizing art museum on Thursday, April 24. The event showcased an array of artworks from each elementary school and masterpieces crafted by middle school students throughout the year.

The Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School gymnasium was transformed into a multicultural festival with food from different countries and attendees dressed in traditional attire. There was dancing to a mariachi before dance troops and OLHMS students took center stage for their performances.

Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 hosted a State of the District Dinner on March 13, 2025, the 123rd day of the 123rd school year. This celebration honored 123 years of excellence in education, recognized the learning community’s collective achievements, and looked ahead to the future with the new strategic direction.

On January 23, Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 celebrated 1-23 Day, a special chance to recognize the strong sense of community and togetherness that defines us, while reflecting on 123 years of our School District’s history. 

As a District, we love hearing about all of the extraordinary achievements our graduates have accomplished over the years, and D123 4-WARD gives us the opportunity to share these amazing alumni success stories with our community. Feeling inspired after reading? The 4-WARD submission form will remain open all year for D123 graduates to share their journeys post middle school graduation. 

In partnership with Feed6-Outreach, Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 hosted its 11th annual meal packaging event at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School. Events like this help local families, kids, veterans, and senior citizens.

The annual Community Leaf Raking Day took place on Saturday, November 16th. Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 was pleased to host about 90 volunteers who raked about 60 yards.  

At Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123, Veterans Day is celebrated in school with special assemblies honoring community heroes and classroom activites teaching students about the importance of recognizing our veterans.

​After announcing the addition of the Early Learning Center to Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 in December 2023 and several months of planning and renovation, the D123 ELC officially opened to its first class of 245 preschool students on Monday, August 26, 2024.

Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 welcomed families for the annual Back-to-School Extravaganza on Saturday, August 24 at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School. Attendees from the Oak Lawn and Hometown communities were in for a treat as the District celebrated the start of its 123rd year in operation.

Friends, family, and District 123 staff gathered to celebrate the Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School Class of 2024 on June 4. We wish these graduates all the best as they continue their academic journey in high school and beyond. Congratulations, OLHMS Class of 2024!

The Oak Lawn-Hometown District 123 PTA Council’s Annual Helen Whalen Higher Education Scholarship Dinner recognized three D123 alumni on May 6 at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School. The Helen Whalen $1,000 scholarship honors the legacy of a devoted PTA member and President of the D123 Board of Education, who served School District 123 for four decades. This year's winners, Anna Driscoll, Nora O’Shea, and Julia Stalzer, exemplify Helen Whalen's dedication to making children "Priority #1."

The temperature cooled, the sky darkened, and curious eyes looked up to the sky to witness the Great North American Eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024. As the Chicago area reached 95% partiality, Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 students and staff watched the spectacle with their protective eyeglasses and were amazed at this once-in-a-generation occurrence.
